Great Coffee
Propylene Glycol is widely used in flavored coffee.
Flavored coffees require a carrier to bind the flavors to the beans at the end of the roasting process. The most prevalent among these carriers is propylene glycol, a popular industrial solvent found in dyes, inks and antifreeze. Although the food industry and the FDA may consider propylene glycol safe when used in small amounts, that’s not okay at Passion Café!

Necessity being the mother of invention, our keen interest in creating a new standard for flavored coffee forced us to come up with an effective, natural food-grade alternative to propylene glycol. We knew about the use of glycerine and water in the flavoring of other natural and organic coffees (which, by law, cannot contain propylene glycol); but it often leaves a "burning sweetness" on the tongue. Our efforts to develop a healthy, clean-tasting coffee took almost a year before ending in success.

Dissatisfaction with flavored coffee is often a function of poor bean quality and/or the oversaturation of flavor in the blend. Propylene glycol may be responsible, at least in part, for certain complaints from flavored coffee drinkers such as:

1. Heavy or "muddy" feeling inside the mouth during and for several minutes after the coffee is consumed.

2. Discomfort in the pit of the stomach.

3. Weakness or illness. (One California woman had stopped drinking coffee for two years because of this very symptom. The only side effect she now experiences with Passion Café is pure pleasure.)

Passion Café has developed a gourmet flavored coffee that is free from harsh flavors and propylene glycol. Every cup is delicious and healthy. Enjoy!
